Emigration to the United States
In the early 1870s, Berlitz immigrated to the United States and settled in the city of Providence, Rhode Island.
Starting in 1872, he privately taught German and French languages, and in 1878, he founded one of the first language schools in the United States. It was during this time that Berlitz developed the methodology that would later become famous, based on complete immersion in the target languag
